ADA Website Accessibility

WCAG 2.1 AA audits and code-level remediation, so people using screen readers, keyboards, magnification or captions can use your site and complete a purchase or form.

An accessible website works for people who are blind, have low vision, are deaf or hard of hearing, or cannot use a mouse. 1REALTOUR audits websites against WCAG 2.1 Level AA and fixes the problems in the site's code, templates and content. The goal is a site real people can use, with records that show the work you have done.

What the law and the standard say

The Americans with Disabilities Act applies to state and local governments under Title II and to businesses open to the public under Title III. The Department of Justice says both must make the services they offer online accessible to people with disabilities.

For state and local governments, the Department of Justice adopted WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the technical standard for web content and mobile apps. For businesses, the Department of Justice has not set a single required standard and allows flexibility in how they comply, while pointing to WCAG as helpful guidance. WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard most audits and remediation plans use, and it is the one we work to.

What we do not promise

No agency, plugin or overlay can make a website immune from accessibility complaints or lawsuits. Automated widgets that add a toolbar to a page do not fix the underlying code, and they often miss problems that scanners cannot detect. We do not sell overlays. We fix the site itself, document the work and help you keep it accessible as content changes.

How the audit works

Automated scanners find only part of the problems. We combine them with manual testing on the pages and tasks that matter most: the home page, main service pages, contact and quote forms, booking, and for stores, product pages, cart and checkout.

  • Keyboard-only navigation and visible focus
  • Screen reader testing for headings, labels, links and announcements
  • Color contrast for text, icons and form fields
  • Alternative text for images and accessible names for buttons
  • Form labels, error messages and instructions
  • Captions and transcripts for video and audio
  • Zoom and text resizing without lost content or sideways scrolling

Each issue in the report lists the WCAG success criterion, where it occurs, who it affects and how to fix it, ranked by impact.

Remediation in the code

We fix issues in your theme, templates and components so the fix applies everywhere the pattern appears, not page by page. On WordPress and Elementor sites, that often means correcting heading structure, menus, sliders, popups and form plugins. On Next.js and Shopify sites, we fix components directly. We also train your editors on alt text, headings, link text and accessible PDFs, since new content is where most regressions start.

Statement and ongoing checks

We help you publish an accessibility statement with a way for visitors to report problems, and we recheck key pages on a schedule or after major changes.

Frequently asked questions

Does the ADA require my business website to meet WCAG 2.1 AA?
The ADA requires businesses open to the public to make their goods and services accessible, including online, but the Department of Justice has not named one required technical standard for businesses. The Department did adopt WCAG 2.1 Level AA for state and local government websites. Most businesses use WCAG 2.1 AA as their working standard, and 1REALTOUR audits and remediates to that level.
Will an accessibility widget or overlay make my site compliant?
An accessibility overlay adds a toolbar or script to a page but does not fix the code underneath, so many barriers remain for screen reader and keyboard users. Overlays also do not protect a business from complaints. 1REALTOUR fixes accessibility problems in the site's code and content instead.
Can 1REALTOUR make my site lawsuit-proof?
No one can make a website lawsuit-proof. 1REALTOUR can audit the site against WCAG 2.1 AA, fix the barriers found, document the work and help keep the site accessible as content changes. That work reduces barriers for users and creates a record of the effort, but it is not legal protection.
What is the difference between WCAG A, AA and AAA?
WCAG success criteria are grouped into three conformance levels. Level A covers the most basic barriers, Level AA adds requirements such as minimum color contrast and consistent navigation, and Level AAA is the strictest. Level AA is the level commonly referenced in laws, policies and audits.
How do you keep a site accessible after remediation?
Accessibility problems often return with new content, plugins or design changes. 1REALTOUR trains editors on accessible content, rechecks key pages on a schedule and reviews new templates before launch. The accessibility statement also gives visitors a way to report problems.
