Security Monitoring

Log and intrusion monitoring, alerting, patching and server hardening for websites and business applications, handled by people who also run the systems.

Security monitoring is the ongoing work of watching your servers and applications for signs of attack, fixing weaknesses before they are used, and responding when something suspicious happens. 1REALTOUR runs this practice on its own infrastructure and offers it to clients whose websites, stores and business applications we host or manage. It is for businesses that know a hacked site or leaked data would be expensive but do not have a security team.

What we watch

Every server and application produces logs. Most of the time nobody reads them. We collect logs in one place and apply rules that flag the events that matter.

  • Repeated failed logins and password-guessing attempts
  • Logins from unusual locations or at unusual times
  • Changes to system files, website core files and configuration
  • New administrator accounts and permission changes
  • Known attack patterns in web traffic
  • Software with published vulnerabilities on your servers
  • Malware signatures in uploaded files and website code

Abusive traffic can be blocked automatically at the edge of the network, while events that need judgment are sent to a person to review. Rules are tuned over the first weeks so routine activity, such as your own staff logging in from home, does not bury the alerts that matter.

Patching and hardening

Most compromises use known problems: an outdated plugin, an unpatched server, a weak password or a service that should never have been exposed. Preventing those is less dramatic than incident response and far more valuable.

  • Regular operating system and application security updates
  • WordPress core, theme and plugin updates tested before release
  • Firewall rules that expose only the services that need to be public
  • Key-based server access, no shared administrator passwords
  • Multi-factor authentication for admin panels and hosting accounts
  • Configuration checks against published security baselines

When something happens

An alert is the start of the work, not the end. When monitoring flags a real problem we contain it first, such as blocking an address, disabling an account or taking a compromised page offline. Then we find out how it happened, clean up, restore from a known good backup if needed, and close the gap that allowed it. You get a plain-language report of what happened and what changed. If customer data may have been exposed, we give you the facts your legal or compliance advisor needs to decide on any notifications.

For hacked WordPress sites that are not yet on our monitoring, our website security service covers malware cleanup and recovery.

Proportionate security

A small business site does not need the same controls as a bank. We size monitoring and hardening to what you run and what data you hold, and focus first on the changes that remove the most risk. Security monitoring is also more effective alongside the rest of our infrastructure practice: tested backups, single sign-on for staff, uptime monitoring and documented recovery plans.

How we work

  1. Step 1

    Assess

We review your servers, applications, accounts and current exposure.

  2. Step 2

    Harden

We fix the highest-risk issues first: updates, exposed services, weak access and missing MFA.

  3. Step 3

    Monitor

We collect logs, set detection rules and route alerts for review.

  4. Step 4

    Respond

We contain and investigate real incidents and report on what changed.

Frequently asked questions

What is security monitoring?
Security monitoring is the continuous collection and review of logs and system activity to detect attacks, unauthorized changes and vulnerable software. It includes alerting and a response process when something suspicious is found.
Does security monitoring prevent every attack?
No security service can prevent every attack. Security monitoring from 1REALTOUR reduces risk by patching known weaknesses, hardening servers and detecting suspicious activity early so damage is limited and recovery is faster.
Do small business websites need security monitoring?
Small business websites are frequent targets because automated attacks scan the internet for outdated software regardless of company size. Security monitoring and regular patching reduce the chance of a hacked site, spam redirects or stolen customer data.
What happens when 1REALTOUR detects a security incident?
When 1REALTOUR detects a security incident, the team contains it, investigates the cause, cleans up affected systems, restores from backup if needed and closes the weakness. The client receives a plain-language report.
Is security monitoring included with hosting?
Security monitoring is part of the infrastructure 1REALTOUR runs for hosted and managed client systems. The level of monitoring is matched to the systems and data involved. Contact 1REALTOUR for details.
